A bostin’ tour of Sandwell
For those arriving by train, you can hire a bike for your trip right outside Sandwell and Dudley train station, et voila you’re off!
New Square shopping centre
Shop til you drop at West Bromwich’s premier shopping and leisure destination. Park up at St Michaels docking station and you will find an array of high street shops, cafes, and restaurants moments away. There’s also a 5-screen Odeon cinema for movie buffs.
West Bromwich leisure centre
Park up at the docks right outside this striking modern building and inside you’ll find a fully equipped modern gym, fitness studio swimming pools and sports hall. At the time of writing the café and soft play area are not yet reopened but when they are its great place to entertain the kids too.
Oldbury town centre
Approximately a 5-minute cycle away you will find Oldbury town centre, Oldbury is the centre of Sandwell and the site of the council house. In the town you’ll find old meets new across the town’s central square; with the modern council house and retail park on one side facing the traditional family shops of Birmingham Street on the other.
Dartmouth Park
If you want to escape the town centres, you’ve got ample options for countryside at your feet (or wheels!). Pick up a bike at Dartmouth Park, which is next to West Bromwich Town Centre and you can explore the grade II listed park which includes ornamental lakes, floral displays, a sensory garden and a community Pavilion with viewing tower.
Sandwell Valley Country Park
From Dartmouth Park why not cycle on further and discover Sandwell Valley Country Park, an award-winning Green Flag park covering 1700 acres of open countryside. It is only one mile from West Bromwich town centre but feels a world away. Here you will also find part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network (Route No.5) running through the park – providing an ideal route to ride on surfaced tracks through pleasant surroundings.
Forge Mill Farm
This cute little farm can be found within Sandwell Valley Country Park. It is a working dairy farm where the main attraction is the dairy herd of pedigree Jersey cows! There’s also a farm shop jam packed with local produce, children’s outdoor play area and picnic spot plus a lovely lake to tour round. From here it’s about a 15-20 minute cycle back to Dartmouth Park docking station, or 30 minutes if you’re heading back to the train station.
